The non-surgical facelift. Radio frequency.

Without a doubt the Radio Frequency non-surgical Facelift is one of the best anti aging treatments available.

As we get older our muscles shrink causing surrounding fat and tissue to take on a 'drooping' appearance. When facial muscles begin to shrink the shape of the face itself changes and can be very ageing.

Unlike other treatments on the market, the 'Radio Frequency treatment works at the deeper level of the muscle, not simply at the surface level of the skin. By rebuilding the underlying muscle mass which supports the skin layer, the face itself becomes 'lifted'. Fine lines and wrinkles on the surface of the skin then become reduced or eliminated. The radio frequency treatment also stimulates the body's natural production of collagen and elastin, further enhancing skin tissue and accentuating a more youthful appearance.

The radio frequency facelifting treatment is a natural way to exercise facial muscles which unlike the body are particularly difficult to exercise effectively even with extensive manual manipulation.

Other Potential benefits

The primary benefits of RF therapy are tightening your skin and getting rid of wrinkles

However, RF therapy may also help fight sun damage due to its ability stimulate the production of collagen.

Originally developed for those suffering from Bells Palsy and Strokes it was discovered that when the treatment was applied to the 'drooping' side of the face that it actually lifted higher than the unaffected side. The results can be remarkable.

For 24-48 hours after a treatment the muscles continue to work and regenerate themselves.

Along with effectively lifting and tightening tissues without surgery or downtime, one of the greatest benefits of Non-surgical facelifts, is that post-procedure recovery is very quick and easy. Side effects are typically minimal and short-lived, limited to mild and temporary redness, and tingling.

TREATING AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES AND HOW REFLEXOLOGY CAN PLAY A ROLE

Your immune system plays a key role in keeping you healthy. It protects your body against disease & infections by blocking bacteria, viruses, and parasites from entering your body.

But what if your immune system turns on you and begins attacking your body instead? This is what is happening with those who have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.

What is Autoimmune Disease?

A properly functioning immune system would be able to tell the difference between invaders and your body’s cells. An autoimmune disease, however, causes your immune system to mistake healthy body cells as foreign ones. Unable to tell the difference, it attacks your body by producing proteins called ‘autoantibodies’ that impair the body’s tissues.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences notes that there are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases that stem from a mix of genetics and environment. Some of the most common ones are type 1 diabetes, lupus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Celiac disease.
Medication range from oral medication to injections the kind of medicine depends on the condition. There’s still no cure for them, but their reaction on the immune system can be managed with immunosuppressants — medications that unfortunately weaken the immune system’s activity.

Researchers still cannot find the reason an autoimmune disease develops in some but not others. Unexplained rashes, body aches, fatigue, and hair loss are just some subtle but common signs you may be suffering from an autoimmune disease. If these are symptoms you experience, it would be best to consult with a medical professional to check the condition of your immune system.

Reflexology’s Role in Treating Them

Tracing its roots as far back as ancient Egypt, the art of reflexology is a form of therapy where pressure is applied to the hands, feet, and outer ears. Reflexology has healing effects like providing deep relaxation, decreasing body pain, and strengthening nerve stimulation.

Living with an autoimmune disease can be extremely stressful, as the bodies of those diagnosed will most likely be attacked by their own immune system for the rest of their lives. Fortunately, a study published in the Journal of Education and Health Promotion found that anxiety, depression, and stress in women with multiple sclerosis, just one of the many autoimmune disorders, significantly decreased thanks to reflexology treatments. This is because its relaxation techniques have the ability to release muscle pain, which has severe implications on both a person’s physical and mental health.

More than just a massage, the pressure applied to the body part touched by a reflexologist can reach different body systems, such as the digestive system, the endocrine system, the nervous system, and the circulatory system. This, in turn, can help bring balance to an immune system that’s not functioning properly. By stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system that helps calms down high-energy functions in the body, reflexology lowers the amount of stress-inducing hormones while helping the body harmonize and relax.

Although autoimmune diseases are complex conditions, the simple power of touch can make all the difference for the pain they cause.

Did you know that reflexology can boost your immune system?

Being preventative is sensible. There’s an old proverb that says

“ The wise man will take care of himself, to prevent illness.”

” The average man will seek assistance when he becomes ill.”
“ The stupid man will ignore signs of illness, until it’s too late.”
Be the wise person. Make reflexology a regular part of your selfcare.

Your body is a wonderful machine, designed to heal and repair your systems. Reflexology aides this by strengthening the body’s natural defence mechanism - the immune system, this increases your ability to fight of infections and ill health.

The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues and organs - the thymus, spleen, bone marrow and lymphatic system - that work together to protect the body.

During a Reflexology treatment all of these organs and systems are stimulated to help boost circulation and help them work optimally, thereby increasing their ability to protect the body better.

Another important factor to consider when talking about the immune system is stress, as it plays a part in our immune function. Stress is related to each and every aspect of our modern day lifestyle.

Reflexology reduces stress and tension throughout the body's systems to improve blood and lymph circulation and release toxins from the body's tissues. It is believed to encourage the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good hormones, and as we all know feeling good is one of the best ways to relieve stress.

If you feel like you could benefit from an immune boosting treatment, book a session in now.

Why is my skin sensitive

Sensitive skin is described as skin that is ‘more reactive than usual’ – but what causes it? Sensitive skin is triggered by the weakening of the natural skin barrier, crucial for protecting the skin and locking in moisture.

Once compromised the skin is exposed, nerve endings in the top layer become irritated, moisture is lost and irritants like wind, sun, heat, cold and toxins are free to penetrate the skin manifesting in the form of redness, irritation and inflammation. Whilst helpful in the short term, sensitivity and inflammation act as the skin’s first line of defence against foreign invaders such as bacteria and viruses and initiates the tissue healing process and limits the damage to skin cells, excessive (chronic) sensitivity is one of the most common themes in early onset skin aging.

Hero products for sensitivity: Repair Serum’s anti-irritants help fortify the skin’s barrier, assist in healthy skin goals, calm, soothe, hydrate and protect. EGF Booster optimises critical cellular communication to minimise signs of aging, promote skin repair, even skin tone and restore moisture levels.

Ayurvedic Facials

The Ayurvedic Philosophy

The philosophy is simple “if you cannot eat it, do not put it on your skin. What is put on the skin should be filled with nourishment, naturally occurring vitamins and minerals safe enough to be taken internally.”

  • We use pure herbs specifically selected to balance the skin.

  • The base of our skincare products is beeswax, sunflower oil, almond oil, sesame oil, purified
    water.

  • All skin care products are made to Strict Ayurvedic Medicinal Guidelines.

  • All products are 100% natural.

There are many ways to keep the body in balance. The one that is ignored the most is the skin. It is the largest organ of the body and often we do not give much thought to what goes on it or applied to it.

We are careful about what we eat and drink, such as organic food, vitamins and minerals. Therefor we should be just as careful about what we put into our skin. All OmVeda ingredients are organically grown and picked in the right season for maximum potency and effectiveness in skin care.

OmVeda is 100% Australian owned.

What is corneotherapy ? What does it mean to your facials ?

Corneothetapy is the skin care concept of the future.  It’s where science meets beauty. It provides the link between dermatology and cosmetics.

( Here’s the skin geek bit: Professor Albert Kligman widely regarded as the father of cosmeceuticals, well known for his pioneering work on corneotherapy, had a clever way of describing it as being like an “outside- in” therapy, where “outside” is the stratum corneum and “in” are the therapeutic effects starting in the stratum corneum and working their way into the deeper layers.)

So, preventative corneotherapy is aimed at supporting the maintenance of healthy skin and the prevention of skin conditions and disease.

Trained therapist will use customised, pure ingredients in their skin care products that can individually adapt to treat specific skin problems.  Think of it as bespoke skin care.

Great advances in our knowledge of the structure and function of the stratum corneum, has led to the development of many innovative products that have not only improved the efficacy but have made them more convenient and easier to use. These include new delivery systems to enhance penetration such as sprays, foams, gels and encapsulation.

Using the principles of corneotherapy it is possible to achieve skin correction and effectively treat many skin disorders before being earmarked for dermatology.

One of the major advantages of corneotherapy is that it is largely free from side effects in comparison with pharmaceuticals.

As Dr Kligman once said: “Whenever you see inflamed skin, regardless of its cause, it means that the stratum corneum is leaky and permeable. But, if you repair the stratum corneum, that tells the underlying tissues that they don’t have to keep reacting like there’s danger in the environment.”  At Sole Revival we have developed a unique and effective range of treatments and products to restore balance to the stratum corneum and promote ongoing healthy, balanced skin.

Recent clinical studies* have shown that not only barrier disorders like acne, rosacea and atopic dermatitis respond particularly well to corneotherapy, but cornification disorders may also be treated with success. An important precondition of a healthy stratum corneum seems to be the presence of Phosphatidylcholine. This substance plays a significant role as a natural component of the cellular membranes.  Moreover in its native form, it provides the linoleic acid for the formation of ceramide 1.

Phosphatidylcholine is also an essential element for the transformation of ceramides into sphingomyelins. It is an interesting fact that the fluidity of the skin barrier layers may be increased with linoleic acid containing Phosphatidylcholine.

Reflexology Treatment for Fibromyalgia – Causes, Treatments and Pressure Points

Reflexology is a non-invasive procedure, in which a physical ailment is treated by applying pressure with the fingers, palms and feet.  It is believed that there are certain reflex points in our hands, feet, ears and shoulders, which when pressed respond to the affected areas or body parts with complaints. For example

For example, the bottom of your foot is a sensitive zone for your urinary bladder. Reflexology is helpful in restoring the immunity and natural harmony within the body, releasing tension, facilitating a state of relaxation and producing clarity of mind.

After attending a couple of reflexology sessions, people experience a deep sense of relaxation and a boost in their energy levels. In addition, reflexology also helps to cope up with stress and anxiety in workaholics. Many reflexology users are happy to talk about their healthy experiences with the therapy.

What is fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is diagnosed by chronic, widespread pain and tenderness in the body. It is difficult to diagnose fibromyalgia as the symptoms coincide with normal fatigue and body ache.

People with fibromyalgia normally display symptoms such as:

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Morning stiffness

  • Headaches

  • Painful menstrual periods

  • Tingling in hands and feet

  • Problems with thinking and memory also known as fibro fog.

What Causes Fibromyalgia?

Between 80 and 90 percent of people diagnosed with fibromyalgia are women. However, men and children can also have the disorder. However, Fibromyalgia is most common in middle aged people.

People with certain other diseases may be more likely to have fibromyalgia. These diseases include:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Ankylosing spondylitis (spinal arthritis).

  • Stressful or traumatic events, such as car accidents

  • Repetitive injuries

  • Genetic conditions

Reflexology for Fibromyalgia

It is always advisable to consult a trained reflexologist for best results. An expert practitioner makes an intelligent assessment of all your individual complaints and symptoms and begins the therapy accordingly.

Reflexology can also be practiced at home, following charts for reflexology. Putting on socks and gloves, makes it easier to demonstrate and feel of how the reflex points should be stimulated. It is always advisable to attend a workshop to learn the tricks of reflexology effectively and what points to stimulate in order to obtain the maximum fibromyalgia relief symptoms.

In reflexology, the top half of your body represents the top half of your foot and the bottom half of your body represents the bottom half of your foot. The left and right sides of your body are represented by your left and right feet. Consequently, there is a reflex point for every fibromyalgia symptom you may be experiencing.

Using reflexology to treat fibromyalgia is easier if you understand how your body works and why treating certain organs and glands helps you achieve relief.

  • Body ache

Press the area of your feet or hands that correspond to the area of the joints or muscles that are experiencing pain. Press your thumb into the outer edges of your foot about mid-way between your toes and your heels to relieve aching knees. Follow this same procedure to relieve any joint or muscle pain that you are experiencing.

Consult the foot reflexology chart to locate the corresponding reflex point for the area that is causing you pain and apply reflexology to those reflex points.

  • Fatigue

One of the main symptoms of fibromyalgia is fatigue. Treat symptoms of fatigue and low energy levels by stimulating the reflex points of the adrenal glands and the pancreas. Exhaustion can be the result of low blood-sugar levels, and since the pancreas helps regulate blood-sugar levels, working the pancreas reflex points several times a day may help you get rid of this condition.

Working the adrenal gland reflex points may also help you by improving the production of adrenaline, which increases energy levelS.

Apply pressure to the reflex points associated with the pancreas and adrenal glands, which are located about halfway down the sole of your right foot, under your big toe. These points are minute so you will probably press on the reflexes for your right kidney as well, but doing so will not interfere with your fibromyalgia treatment; as pressing any reflex point is beneficial.

  • Lack of Concentration

Remove lack of concentration by working on your brain reflexes. These are located on the tips of your first three toes on each foot. Stimulating the brain reflexes will help you with the lack of concentration sometimes associated with fibromyalgia.

Use the tip of your thumb to press the tip of your big toe and the tips of your second and third toes one by one.

  • Morning Stiffness

Fibromyalgia patients often feel stiffness all over the body due to soreness of muscles. Press your thumb deep into the arch area of each foot to relieve back stiffness. Repeat at least 5 to 6 times on each foot.

Skincare, what you should know

There is so much information on social media where the stronger the skincare products are the better. But when it comes to active ingredients such as Vit C, Retinol, AHA's and Vitamin A, this information can be very misleading and actually ruin your skin, turning healthy skin into compromised skin that is sensitive and inflamed. The belief that unless you're experiencing dryness and flaking on a regular basis that your results are going to plateau and the ingredients aren't working hard enough for you is not correct. When your skin becomes compromised it’s a clear sign to take it easy and nourish your skin with non active products to improve your skins health. If you over-do things, particularly with AHA's and Vitamin A, you risk impairing you’re skins natural barrier.

Remember our skin is an organ not a muscle, it does not need to be pushed beyond its limits to become stronger.

Collectivity our skins microbiome are what keep our skin healthy. They regulate water loss and cell turnover, as well as protecting us from free radicals and pollution.

When we see acne, rosacea, sun damage, wrinkles ect, it’s a sure sign that our skin is not operating the way it should and it requires correction. Knowing exactly what is required to correct the skin is the key, this is when a good therapist, knowledgeable in how cells function can help you. They will tell you, there is no quick fix. Most of the skin issues we see occur in the epidermis, so the first port of call should be perfecting how those layers are being formed. Once we do that all the skin issues will start to correct themselves over time. Wrinkles and loss of elasticity are dermal ( surface) issues but really it began in the epidermis long before it became visible.

Remember less is more and consistency and importantly patience is key. Get skin savvy and find yourself someone who has invested their time into educating themselves to understand what it is your skin needs. When I recommend a product to you it’s not to sell you something, it’s to help you. Customised skin care programmes are the way of the future.

Think about the analogy of the marathon runner. If you were asked to run a marathon with no training or preparation would you do well, not likely, in fact you would do yourself damage. It’s the same with homecare products, they are your personal trainer, setting you up for success. With preparation your less likely to risk injury as well as downtime and recovery time.

Anti aging facials, what’s the difference ?

An anti-aging facial will have all the steps of a basic facial, but with the added advantage of special equipment and ingredients that are targeted to aging or "mature" skin, which is usually age 40 and up. However it is advisable to start having regular facials from age 29 upwards as this is when collagen begins to breakdown and cellular turnover slowdowns.

The time it takes for healthy young cells to migrate to the topmost layer slow down, which makes skin duller looking. And with all the facial expressions we use the lines and wrinkles become deeper.

An anti-aging facial might include, radio frequency, skin needling, Ipl lasers,  photo facials and microdermabrasion. products may be a chemical peel, collagen masks, special serums that have antioxidants like vitamin C or ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which attracts water to cells) exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear, well-hydrated skin. They are all called various things, but don’t be overwhelmed a good dermal therapist will do a consultation to understand what it is that bothers you and then they will advise you on the best treatments and products specifically for your skin.

The Basic Steps of an Anti-Aging Facial

  • Cleansing— An anti-aging facial begins with a cleansing. All facials begin with cleansing.

  • Skin Analysis—The therapist looks at your skin through a magnifying lamp or glasses that reveals various skin conditions such as dry skin, broken capillaries, age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles.

  • Exfoliation using a mechanical or chemical exfoliant—Mechanical exfoliation has a slight gritty texture and sometimes steam vapor is directed at your face. A chemical peel can be a stand-alone treatment or part of the facial. It is generally an upgrade.

  • Facial massage using classic strokes like effleurage to both relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles. Facial massage, stimulates the cells, brings oxygen to the surface and improves lymphatic drainage.

  • facial mask targeted to mature skin—The actual mask will depend on the line the clinic carries and what kind of facial you asked for.

  • Toners, eye cream, Moisturiser and protective creams are applied.

  • Home skin care advice is offered.

An anti-aging facial is more expensive than the basic facial because the tools and equipment they use are usually very expensive to buy and maintain, and the products they use are of a higher quality, usually with active ingredients to target the skin at a deeper level. It can range anywhere from $95 to $750, Prices will be lower at a day spa  or clinic, independently owned ones where the staff are highly trained are usually the best ones. Prices will be higher at destination spasresort and hotel spas, and medical spas.

How often should you get an anti-aging facial? Ideally, get a facial monthly to stimulate your skin's cellular turnover and assist with exfoliation. If your budget doesn't allow for that, have a facial at least four times a year, as the season changes. enemy just two a year, say before your birthday and before Christmas.

How Effective Are Anti-Aging Facials?

Anti-aging facials can be very effective, but it depends on the skill and experience of the dermal therapist, the quality of the products, and whether you carry through with a good home skin care regimen. Anti-aging facials and skin care products can also be more effective in conjunction with treatments like LED light, which boosts collagen.

Be careful about over-doing it and find someone whose advice and skill you trust. Some anti-aging products are too much for sensitive skin. Check out their level of training before you spend your time and money.

How to get beautiful skin

How can I improve my skin?

Your not going to like it, but giving up (or at least cutting back on) alcohol, is probably one of the best things you could do for your skin.

New York nutritionist Jairo Rodriguez, who’s clients include designers and Vogue editors is not slow in telling them what he thinks about their alcohol consumption.  “I always joke with my patients, ‘If you want to get older, go ahead and drink”.

With sugar also being demonised for its affect on our health. We are seeing non alcoholic drinks being served in heaps of bars, Henry Summer in Northbridge do a mean mocktail, And you won’t be disappointed with the huge range of classic cocktails being offered at Bar Lafayette in the CBD.

As more people become sober curious, and either cut out alcohol or cut down on it, they are pleasantly surprised at the improvement in their skin.

The No 1 killer is dehydration.

Alcohol affects any mucous membrane, from the pancreas and liver. If you compare a drinker, (20 years or so) and a non drinker, of the same age, the non drinker will look at least 10 years younger. Dehydration ages you.

Alcohol inflames the tissue, and systemic inflammation to the skin caused by alcohol creates a histamine reaction—that creates the redness. If you choose to continue drinking, it can become a permanent, and your  facial redness will not go away. Using face wipes filled with preservatives, products that are too strong for you or used incorrectly can all add to the redness, so don’t freak out, it may not all be down to your alcohol consumption.

Can you reverse the damage that drinking alcohol has done to your body?
“Yes, you can, so that’s great news. Your liver and your skin can regenerate, but obviously you have to give up alcohol, or at the very least cut back. It’s hard to get the collagen back but with a good therapist, good quality products and time you can make massive improvements. If you have been drinking for 20 or 30 years regeneration is not going to happen overnight.

The type of alcohol you drink will affect your skin
If you do drink, what’s the best alcohol to choose? “Different alcohols have different effects on the skin, there is some evidence to say that the clearer the alcohol the better it will be at getting out of your system. So vodka, gin and tequila would be good choices.

How often you drink and what age you are make a difference as to how much you can drink
Your age actually has an effect on how your body processes alcohol. When you are 20 years of age you can get rid of alcohol in roughly 3 hours. When you’re 40 years old, it takes an average of 33 hours. So if your 40 years of age or above you need to make sure that you only drink every other day, or you are constantly topping up your alcohol and not giving your liver a chance to repair itself.

Drink more water
“If you’re going to drink, drink water with it to increase that diuretic effect. Dehydrated skin is awful looking. You can also increase your hydration by drinking herbal teas and eating high water content foods such as cucumber and watermelon.

Use good quality products

What the best sunscreen? What does spf mean?

What is SPF Sunscreen?

SPF, or Sun Protection Factor,is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect skin from UVB rays, the kind of radiation that causes sunburn, damages skin, and can contribute to skin cancer.

To understand an SPF - a sun protection factor you first need to know how an SPF is calculated?

Minutes to burn without sunscreen x SPF number = maximum sun exposure time

For example if you burn WITHOUT A SUNSCREEN IN 10 MINUTES, then you apply an SPF 30+ you theoretically can stay in the sun for 30 x 10mins, that's 300 minutes or FIVE HOURS. But here is where it all goes terribly wrong!

1. Most people under-apply sunscreens, using ¼ to ½ the amount required. Using half the required amount of sunscreen only provides the square root of the SPF. So, a half application of an SPF 30 sunscreen only provides an effective SPF of 5.5

The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) scale is not linear:

  • SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays

  • SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays

  • SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays

So, one way of looking at this is that SPF 30 sunscreen only gives you 4% more protection thanSPF 15 sunscreen.

2. Once your burn time for the day is up, you cannot reapply your SPF and start again. This information is a surprise to many people, most people think they can just keep reapplying their sunscreen. The only safe option is to get out of the sun or completely cover up.

I like this analogy from INSKIN CEO Maria Enna-Cocciolone. “Think of it like putting a chicken in the oven, once its cooked and you take it out of the oven its cooked. If you take it out of the oven wait an hour then put it back In the oven it’s still cooked, skin is the same. Once your burn time has expired you are cooked and you need to go inside and stay right out of the sun for the next 24 hours”.

3. If you chose to use anything higher than an SPF30+ (the most popular being a 50+ but they go as high as a 70+) the added protection is minimal (certainly not another 20x your natural burn time).

A better option is a 30+ mineral based SPF that is well applied, reapplied if it is towel dried or frictioned off or exposed to water and simply getting out of the sun when your natural burn time X 30 is up

Remember* An SPF must be applied minimum 20 minutes before sun exposure.

Babies should not be in the sun full stop. Their natural burn time is fast and chemicals should not be applied to their skin.

Always remember the skin is the largest organ of the body, treat it with respect because at the end of the day you only get one body.

Is Reflexology good for stress?

Reflexology is one of the best treatments for overall well-being. One of the main reasons it is so good for you is the affect it can have on your autonomic nervous system. The Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system originate in the spinal cord and branch out from there, but they work independently from each other and when they are kept in balance your mind is calmer and your body can work more effectively.

The sympathetic nervous system is the part of the autonomic nervous system that prepares the body to react to stressors by causing a number of reactions in the body, such as releasing Adrenalin, it is commonly referred to as "fight or flight”.

Whilst the Parasympathetic is referred to as "rest and digest." It is the part of the autonomic nervous system that controls functions of the body at rest. The PNS stimulates the salivation, digestion, digestion, defecation, urination and lacrimation. It helps maintain homeostasis in the body.

While you can not consciously control your parasympathetic nervous system, there are a number of things that can help you exert a level of control over the sympathetic responses.

One of these is Reflexology. Through the application of specific thumb and finger techniques, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and promotes the natural function of the body returning it to its natural balanced state.

Sress accounts for a whopping 80% of modern diseases. When suffering to much stress your body goes into the fight or flight response, which causes it to release increased levels of cortisol and adrenaline. This may lead to accelerated heart rate, insomnia, increase in blood pressure, weakened immune system and poor digestion.

Reflexology engages the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the body’s normal resting response. In this relaxed state, (which is the body’s natural healing system) the body is able to repair and rebuild itself.

Reflexology should be included in your health regime as a preventative measure, it’s as important as going to gym and excersising your body to keep it fit.
