What is Five element reflexology?

Five Element Reflexology

What is Five Element Reflexology?

The Five Elements Theory first appeared during around  770–476 BC, it is extensively used in Chinese Medicine, Philosophy, Feng Shui and Martial Arts.

Traditional Chinese Healing is based on the theory of The Five Elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

Each Element is related to its organ and meridians in the body, ( the channels that run through your body from head to toe)  which are affected by different emotions. The Five Elements theory has been taken from thousands of years of observing nature including the physical, emotional and spiritual elements.

Energy flows through the elements on a daily and annual basis. When there is an interruption in this flow it can manifest as a disturbance in the body’s energy field. We sense this disturbance as physical and emotional problems. Every ailment you have can be traced back to its roots. It’s only by treating the root cause can you effectively treat your ailments.

By understanding The Five Element association, we are in a  position to treat the body at a much deeper level.

HOW DO YOU REDUCE PIGMENTATION CAUSED BY SUN DAMAGE?

WHY DOES PIGMENTATION HAPPEN?

Melanin, your skin’s brown pigment protects your skin from UV damage. It is made by the specialised pigment-producing cells called melanocytes and is then transferred to the surrounding skin cells.

Studies have shown that without UV rays, the number of melanocytes (pigment producing cells) decreases by 10-20% per decade.

Any skin exposed to UV radiation causes inflammation to the skin (even at low levels) which stimulates the melanocytes to increase in number and clump together. Plus these sun-exposed melanocytes seem to overproduce melanin. Mottled hyperpigmentation, ephelides (freckles), solar lentigines (sun spots/ age spots)  and pigmented seborrheic keratoses (AKA senile warts!!) are the main pigmentation problems you get as you get older.

How can I get rid of them?

Getting rid of pigmentation is never quick, the best results come from using multiple depigmenting agents together.

Left untreated, pigmentation caused by the sun will most likely persist indefinitely and will not go away on their own.

There are steps you can start taking now to minimise and prevent further damage. The following products have the strongest evidence for managing pigmentation:

  • Tyrosinase Inhibitors: Right now, the most effective depigmentation agents available are tyrosinase inhibitors. Tyrosinase is an essential enzyme for the formation of melanin by the melanocytes. The most potent tyrosinase inhibitor available is

  • Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide): It inhibits the transfer of melanin from melanocytes to surrounding skin cells. We have various products available with this ingredient

  • Vitamin A: Really good evidence exists for Vitamin A for pigmentation. It tends to increase cell turnover, and indirectly inhibit tyrosinase.

  • Vitamin C: Ascorbic acid seems to inhibit melanin production as well as preventing inflammation in the skin which limits the inflammatory pathway in overproduction of pigment. This is a great powerful antioxidant to help with your pigmentation.

  • Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol): Anti-inflammatory properties as well as indirectly inhibiting tyrosinase

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): They are helpful in treating pigmentation by increasing cell turnover and studies show they inhibit tyrosinase.

Don’t forget that it is NEVER TOO LATE to start to prevent more pigmentation from happening.

A day cream offering broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays should be an essential part of everyday skin care.

Note from Jules at Sole Revival skin and body clinic

“For those of you asking about the benefit of pulsing, here’s the answer: The consensus in the scientific research agrees that delivering the light energy in a pulsed manner, as opposed to continuous wave delivery, allows the cells to absorb more of the energy over the treatment session.

The more energy that is absorbed the better. Good LASERs deliver the energy this way but very few LED devices have a pulsing option. It is more costly and sophisticated to include pulsing so most manufacturers skip it. The pulsing in the Celluma algorithm is proprietary. However, like all aspects of Celluma, it’s not just flickering lights, it’s science based.

Each wavelength is pulsing at a different frequency and is at a rate perceptible by the cells although not to the human eye. For example, the Celluma wavelengths are pulsing between 80 and 800 hertz (per second) depending on the wavelength.”

Wonders of Collagen for Radiant Skin

Wonders of Collagen for Radiant Skin

Did you know that Collagen makes up the bulk of connective tissue and is about 25-35% of whole-body protein content? The name collagen comes from the Greek kolla meaning glue and suffix -gen denoting producing.

These are the three layers that make up your skin:

Epidermis: the external covering; what we see and refer to as “skin”.

Collagen: the fibrous protein that glues and stabilizes the contact between the dermis and the epidermis.

Dermis: where the nerve endings, blood vessels and sweat glands are located.

Collagen determines if your skin is firm, supple and silky at birth. Sadly, Collagen reaches its peak when we reach the age of 35, considered the time when actual aging starts. Reduction or damage of Collagen leads to premature sagging and wrinkles causing your skin to look older than what it ought to be.

Prime causes of Collagen damage have been attributed to:

Over-exposure to sun and UV rays.

Exposure to chemicals like Chlorine and other Herbicides.

Inhaling Polluted air, Smoking.

Emotional Stress.

Consumption of refined carbohydrates and other sugary foods.

Strengthening Your Collagen:

Now that we know the importance of Collagen and the need to preserve and protect it, let’s look at ways to strengthen and nourish this vital constituent:

Stick to a healthy diet, even before you reach the 35-year threshold.

An antioxidant rich diet of Lutein (found in dark green leafy vegetables), Lycopene (found in red fruits and vegetables) and Omega-3 fatty acids (found in cold water fish).

Eat plenty of citrus fruits, strawberries and broccoli to restrict the damage from UV ray exposure.

Vitamins A, D, E and the B-complex vitamins and minerals like zinc, selenium and silica are vital to the health of your skin.

There are many Collagen-strengthening creams and lotions available, however to date I have not been able to find any documented medical proof circumventing this claim. Although there are many people who swear that introducing collagen supplements have made a great difference to their skin.

Secrets-to-Faster-Results Discover-what-a-professional-Dp-Dermaceuticals-Facial-can-do-for-you

Secrets to Faster Results – Discover what’s a Dp Dermaceuticals Facial

When most people think about “Dermapen”, they think “microneedling facial“. But our Dp Dermaceuticals range is used in professional clinics all over the world in stand-alone facials.

Microneedling in a professional setting may only occur every 4–8 weeks. Incorporating a Dp Dermaceuticals facial in-between helps you achieve the desired outcomes quicker.

So, what is in a facial from Dp Dermaceuticals? Explore the types of facial products used and how they all work together to achieve a luminous glow.

DermapenWorld Advanced Facial Steps

Start with a facial cleanser

The first step in any facial should always be to cleanse the skin to remove make-up or impurities.

One of the main concerns you might be battling is excess oil, acne, blackheads or gaping pores. CLR FOAM CLEANSER™ is a powerful anti-acne cleanser that cleans pores deeply without drying out your skin. Natural amino acids, salts, manuka honey, herbal and fruit extracts serve a dual purpose, helping regulate oil production and kill P-acnes bacteria.

TRI-PHASE CLEANSER™ is an incredible product that goes onto the skin with a balm-like consistency and delightful citrus fragrance. It’s used as a luxurious massage balm during a Dp Dermaceuticals facial. At the final stage of the massage, water is added. It quickly transforms into a refreshing milk that easily washes away.

Gentle  exfoliation

Now it’s time for an even deeper cleanse with an exfoliator. One of the main deep cleanse facial benefits is removing dulling dead skin cells that can interfere with other rejuvenation procedures.

MICRO DERM EXFOLIANT™ is an obvious choice. It contains bamboo powder, which is rich in silica. This natural exfoliant is a powerful but gentle cleanser that offers antioxidant protection against free radicals.

Other types of facials it’s useful for include:

  • Light-based procedures such as IPL, LASER, LED, as the gentle removal of dead skin cells allows the beneficial light to penetrate the skin

  • Microdermabrasion, for further removal of dead skin cells or improved infusion of topical serum

Microbial cleansing

To ensure that skin is absolutely clean, CLINIPREP™ is spritzed over the face following exfoliation. This antimicrobial solution provides optimal skin hygiene. Unlike some traditional skin cleaning products, it doesn’t irritate or sting the skin. CLINIPREP is deadly to pathogens but doesn’t interfere with skin cell regrowth. It works with the other steps in your facial, not against it.

Relax with a Massage

Now for the reason your aesthetician’s chair is more appealing than a Sunday lie-in — a facial massage. There are a few different yet equally luxurious options. One of our all-time favourites is Dp Dermaceuticals CBD ELIXIR™, which contains beneficial broad-spectrum non-psychoactive CBD to calm the skin.

If you’re after a facial for a specific concern, such as ageing, acne, or pigmentation, we have a select range of potent serums to choose from.

Pro tip: The Dermapen 4 device has an optional SSS Roller Tip for effective massage in even hard to reach places like around the nose.

Chemical peel facials

Even though you need to wait between microneedling appointments, that doesn’t mean you can’t move things along faster. Chemical peels are a popular product used during facials for stimulating cellular turnover.

Dp Dermaceuticals ÜBER PRO™ is an award-winning peel that can be used as part of a microneedling facial or as a powerful stand-alone facial. It recently won the “professional product of the year” award at the SHR Skincare Professional Awards– a prestigious awards ceremony in Sweden.

This is how the judges described the winning formula:

“Easy-to-use and comfortable anti-aging treatment with an advanced formula for skin that requires something out of the ordinary. A very effective chemical peel with proven ingredients that penetrates deeply and at the same time has a pleasant effect on the skin.

ÜBER PRO gives noticeable results after the first treatment, without any negative side effects!”

Luxurious facial masks

The luxury continues with a mask. Dp Dermaceuticals offers you a choice of 2 different formulas in our 3D Sculptured Facemasks – HYLA ACTIVE™ or BRITE LITE™. The HYLA ACTIVE™ serum is an intense hydrator, perfect for an anti-ageing facial.

BRITE LITE™ contains potent brighteners. It’s the perfect choice for acne facials or facials for pigmentation.

The SSS Roller can be used over the masks to drive those nourishing serums deep into your skin. Plus, it just feels incredible.

LED facial benefits

Of course, not all masks have to contain serums to be beneficial. LED light masks are also a popular and proven type of facial. It effectively improves a wide range of skin concerns, from ageing, fine lines and wrinkles to pigmentation and pores. Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D.™contains red and infrared light for intensive anti-ageing.

While Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D. is designed primarily for home use (you can use it multiple times a week), your clinician may also have a professional machine. These tend to be big and hard masks that aren’t easily portable like Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D.

Final advanced facial step

You’re nearly at the end of your facial at this point, and probably feeling very relaxed. It’s time for the finishing touches. Dp Dermaceuticals VITAMIN RICH REPAIR™ adds a layer of moisture. Enriched with essential daily vitamins (A, B, C, E), peptides and antioxidants, it increases your skin’s resiliency.

Maintain Your Results

Before you walk out the door, your provider will apply COVER RECOVER™. This all in one, anti-ageing, cover, and SPF product was developed to cool and calm skin after microneedling facials. But it also works well after Cryo, Dermabrasion, and Laser. It calms stinging sensations and redness, enhances results, and lessens downtime.

Use it every day to protect your skin from environmental elements, especially the sun.

Ready to Book Your Facial?

If you’re ready to take control of your skin and enjoy a little bit of pampering at the same time, a Dp Dermaceuticals Facial is for you. Not all trips to the aesthetician need to involve microneedling to get great results. Only our Authorised Treatment Providers have access to our world-class products. Find a clinic near you to book a consultation.

How to Improve Skin Quality Before the Festive Season

No amount of twinkling lights can make a sad, spindly tree look good. The same goes for your skin. If you want to be glowing on the party scene, you’ll need to consider how to perfectly prep your skin.

The ultimate beauty tip for skin is to make sure it’s naturally glowing before you add any “decoration”, like highlighter or bronzer. But if you’re not sure how to improve skin quality, don’t stress. We’ve created a step-by-step guide with all our glowing skin secrets.

First tip: get started now so you can ring in the new year looking your very best.

Ready to learn how to improve skin tone and radiance?

Ok, let’s get you glowing.

Step 1.

Book a consultation

Microneedling with Dermapen is a fast and effective way to boost collagen and elastin production and improve the appearance of your skin. But before any needling, you need to consult with a professional.

Did you know that not everyone can use a Dermapen? Be wary of imitation devices. Only our Authorised Treatment Providers (affectionately known as ATPs) have access to a Dermapen 4™ device and Protocols that get you the ultimate results. During your initial consultation, they analyse your skin and decide on the best course of action. You’ll find out how many procedures they recommend and at what interval.

They’ll also set you up with an appropriate skincare routine. Dp Dermaceuticals™ is our signature range that’s been specially developed to support your microneedling results. Use these products as part of your festive season beauty prep.

Depending on the skin concern you’re targeting, your ATP can offer you a starter pack. These are available for anti-ageingpigmentation, and acne

Step 2.

Get clinical Dermapen Treatment done

While you might be apprehensive about needling their skin, the revolutionary Dermapen 4™ device is more comfortable than ever before. So much so, we don’t recommend numbing cream. This is because the Dermapen 4 has several revolutionary features.

Unlike rollers that make an arcing cut in the skin, the Dermapen needles move in an up and down motion thanks to the Advanced Oscillating Vertical Needle™ (AOVN) technology. It also moves at an astounding speed, creating up to 1,920 micro-channels a second. This is up to 104% faster than other microneedling pens.

Dermapen microneedling works by stimulating the wound healing response in your skin. The body responds by producing more collagen and elastin, which rejuvenates your appearance and improves a wide range of other concerns. Even active acne and scars can be improved.

The micro-fine needles also create microchannels that absorb the active ingredients in the Dp Dermaceuticals. Not only is each product packed with potent ingredients, but they’re also clinically formulated so that the correct doses reach the appropriate layers. They are sterile, pure, and stable formulations that have a positive effect on your skin.

Afterwards comes one of our favourite parts of the procedure – a cooling and comforting 3D Sculptured Mask. Available in both HYLA ACTIVE™ or BRITE LITE™, these masks are like a cool, calm hug for your face.

The final step is COVER RECOVER™, which you will continue to use throughout the 8 weeks. This wonder SPF product calms and shields your face while it’s inflamed and – as a bonus – camouflages any redness. The medicating actives support the healing process.

Step 3.

Use LED masks to prep skin for an event

All DermapenWorld products are a part of our Synergy of Solutions. That means that everything we offer gets you better results when used together. Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D.™ is no exception. It’s an excellent addition to any skin prep for an event.

Your skin benefits in several ways:

– First up, the healing red wavelengths calm inflammation after a microneedling procedure.

– The masks also contain infrared light, which is harder to find in at-home LED products. Infrared light has an incredible anti-ageing effect because it penetrates deeper than red light.

LED has a similar and complementary effect to microneedling. It stimulates collagen and elastin. While your skin might have a noticeable glow after a single 10-minute season, the results improve with consistent use. Studies have proven that Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D. visibly improves the signs of ageing. After 3 treatments per week for 4 weeks:

  • 95% agree skin was brighter and plumper

  • 98% agree skin felt firmer

  • 96% agree fine lines were less visible

If all the planning and prepping for the party season is stressing you out, you can’t go wrong with LED. As well as having a rejuvenating effect on your skin, LED also promotes the production of serotonin. This is known as a “happy hormone” responsible for stabilising our mood and promoting deeper sleep.

Step 5.

Use Dermapen HOME to keep the glow from your clinical procedure

It’s time to give your professional results a top-up. We recommend a combination of clinical AND at-home microneedling for the best, quickest results. It’s one of our top glowing skin secrets.

Your skin professional is trained to go deeper and make a sound assessment about what your skin needs. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for at-home microneedling – an increasingly popular option.

But first, be warned that microneedling at home should never exceed depths of 0.5mm. Any deeper than that, and you could cause more damage than good.

With the Dermal Skin roller you can safely and confidently microneedle at home.

Boost those anti-ageing results and allow for greater absorption of the actives in the Dp Dermaceuticals. Remember to finish up with a quenching 3D Sculptured Mask and COVER RECOVER

step 6.

Get a professional facial before any events with a Dp Dermaceuticals ÜBER Peel

There’s nothing like enjoying the BEST facial before an event. So now’s the time to head back to your Authorised Treatment Provider for an ÜBER Peel. The all-in-one ÜBER PRO increases cellular turnover to reveal younger skin underneath. It’s safe to use on any skin colour and can help improve a wide range of skin concerns, like ageing, pigmentation, acne and even scars. Your complexion softens and appears more even.

For atrophic scarsstretch marks or deep wrinkles, your Authorised Treatment Provider may choose to also use Dp Dermaceuticals ÜBER MD. This peel targets specific imperfections and can be applied over the top of the ÜBER PRO peel.

Now you’re truly on the way to being event-ready. But there are still a few small tricks up our sleeves to get your skin looking even more gorgeous.

Step 6.

Time for a Dermapen HOME top-up

You might not believe us now, but you’ll probably be itching to microneedling your skin again. It’s hard to stop once you see the results! The good news is that because the dermal skin roller reaches superficial depths, you can use it every 7-10 days between clinical appointments. You’ll start to see a glow.

Of course, it’s vital that throughout this entire routine, you have kept up a twice-daily use of your Dp Dermaceuticals. This is a bit like watering your favourite potted palm. You wouldn’t water your indoor plants once every couple of months and expect them to thrive – they need daily care. So does your skin.

Pro Beauty Prep Tip: Ask your Authorised Treatment Provider for their recommendation of Dp Dermaceuticals serumsto use as a Meso-Glide. These speciality serums allow the device to glide over your skin while needling in actives.

You should also make sure you’re operating in a sterile environment. Dp Dermaceuticals CLINIPREP™ is an antimicrobial solution that’s pH neutral. Use it to prep skin before microneedling at home.

Step 7

Hydration, hydration, hydration!

The most important thing to remember now is to keep your skin hydrated. As part of the proliferation phase after microneedling, your skin can appear and feel dry. This is easily solved. Quench your skin with regular application of HYLA ACTIVE™ serum, and you’ll barely notice it. This refreshing serum is packed with potent hyaluronic acid in our patented HylaFuse™ Complex. The 3 molecular weights ensure it reaches deep into your skin, where it continues to deliver water and actives for up to 8 hours.

Pro beauty prep tip: HYLA ACTIVE also comes in the form of a 3D sculptured mask for the faceneck and décolleté and hands. Set aside 10 minutes the evening before an event for this easy beauty tip for your face at home. Whew, it’s time to relax and enjoy the feeling of intense hydration.

You Deserve It!

It’s fair to say; the last few years have been particularly challenging. The New Year is a time to reflect on what’s passed and what’s to come.

Before you race into 2022 we hope you are inspired to make a positive change for your skin. It’s possible to rewrite your skin’s journey, and we’re here to support you.

You don’t have to wait until next year to do something positive for yourself. Book your initial consultation to see what’s possible for you this coming festive season.

Skin needling for rejuvenation, pigmentation and scarring

Plump Up Your Skin with These Potent Hyaluronic Acid Serums

When microneedling your skin with a Dermapen™, your aesthetician uses a special serum called a Meso-Glide™ to help the device glide across the surface. But not just any serum you have lying in your bathroom cabinet can or should be used.

Dp Dermaceuticals™ created the MG-Collection for the ultimate microneedling results. There are 5 targeted serums in the collection. Today we’re zooming in on the two Hyaluronic Acid serums in the range, MG-HA35 and MG-HA35+, to take a closer look at their incredible hydration powers.

If you care about what’s infused into your skin (and you should), keep reading to learn about these advanced Hyaluronic Acid formulations. How they work and the results they offer will blow your mind.

MG-Collection: The Backstory

Did you know that the Dermapen 4™ creates up to 1,920 microchannels every second? That process on its own triggers the production of more collagen and elastin.

However, DermapenWorld™ is always looking for ways to provide aestheticians and their patients with the very best in synergistic solutions. And that requires infusing the skin with the right formulations and ingredients that can work at the deeper layers of skin.

That’s why, shortly after the original Dermapen was created, we developed skincare suitable for microneedlingDp Dermaceuticals™ was born. At the heart of this range is a patented Hyaluronic Acid formula called HylaFuse™

Fast forward a decade, and we have now created superior serums for use in a professional setting—the MG-Collection™

Bespoke Skincare

Whether your goal is to rejuvenate or brighten, reduce scarring or problematic skin, the MG-Collection offers premium formulations in one easy-to-use glass vial.

Professionals use the Meso-Glides on their own or combine 1:1 with MG-HA35 or MG-HA35+ depending on the individual skincare concern.

MG-HA35 and MG-HA35+ contain an unprecedented concentration of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) at 35 mg/ml. This technology infuses the skin with hydration for visibly plumper, radiant skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How HA Keeps You Looking Younger

HA is naturally present in all three skin layers and is a powerful moisture magnet.  It helps control, regulate, and maintain optimum skin hydration levels. As we age, the body’s natural supply of HA deteriorates, resulting in drier skin, loss of firmness, and fine lines.

As well as premature ageing, acute and chronic dehydration contributes to skin inflammation and sensitivity, leaving the skin feeling tight, irritated, and rough.

Introducing more HA into your skin using a topical serum can help the skin appear plumper, smoother, and full of volume. HA helps retain over 1,000 times its weight in water within the cells of the skin. Fine lines and deeper wrinkles are diminished, and your skin feels intensely hydrated.

Molecule Size Matters

Many facial creams claim to boost your natural supply of HA, but the molecules are too large to penetrate the skin effectively.  HylaFuse™ consists of 3 differently sized molecules to reach deeper skin layers. It effectively delivers water and active ingredients into the skin for up to eight hours after application.

Revolutionary Meso-Glides

MG-HA35 and MG-HA35+ include several scientific breakthroughs to support anti-ageing.

Unprecedented Potency of Hyaluronic Acid at 35mg/ml

At 35mg/ml, both the MG-HA35 and MG-HA35+ contain an unprecedented potency of HA in a topical serum. Thanks to the triple-weighted (that’s the differently sized molecules) HylaFuse formula, it’s able to be safely and efficiently infused into the skin.

HylaFuse is clinically proven to be absorbed 150% more effectively than other forms of HA for maximum skin absorption.

Dual Dermal Delivery System with Calphasomes™

Both MG-HA35 and MG-HA35+ also deliver active ingredients via Calphasomes™. One of the key ingredients in this patented dermal delivery system is Hydroxyapatite – a mineral obtained from phosphate rock. It works as a barrier to the hazardous and negative effects of ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

It also enhances the penetration of oil- and water-based actives into the skin and promotes rapid skin cell regeneration.

Naturally Imperfect

Professionals are sometimes surprised to see some sediment at the bottom of the vial. This isn’t a defect but a benefit of a natural and beautifully synergistic ingredient. Calphasomes absorb easily into the skin. The vials require vigorous shaking before use and contain 2 tiny spheres of sodalite stone for this purpose. As an added benefit, extra minerals from the stones infuse the formula and are absorbed by the skin.

Nobel Prize Innovation

Geranylgeranylisopropanol (GGP for short) is proven to help stabilise a string of amino acids called “telomeres” in skin cells. This helps prolong the life of a cell. The discovery of how telomeres protect chromosomes was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2009.

MG-HA35+ includes GGP to repair the loss of firmness and elasticity and enhance the skin’s barrier function. A powerful anti-ageing ingredient, it helps reduces fine lines and wrinkles for younger, healthier-looking skin. Redness and age spots are faded for a more even skin tone.

Rehydrate for Younger Looking Skin

MG-HA35 and MG-HA35+ are potent ways to add hydration to skin in conjunction with Dermapen Treatments. This range is only available to our Authorised Treatment Providers for professional applications.

How to get glowing skin?

What is the secret to glowing and naturally beautiful skin?

Commitment is the answer.

It’s like anything in life, regular commitment to an action will deliver results.

If you go to the gym and work really hard, get the results you want then stop going, you’ll soon be back to where you started. So commit to a good skincare routine being part of your general hygiene standards, like brushing your teeth every day.

Make your habits good ones.

1. Have a simple skincare routine, that fits in with your lifestyle. There’s no point in having a complicated routine if you know your not going to do it. So I’d ask you first up, are you a stand in front of the mirror giving your skin a good cleanse ? or are you pop in the shower quick cleans routine type? That will determine what products I’d recommend to you.

2. Choose a hydrator that is suitable for your skin, not your friends or social influencers recommendations. Everyone’s skin is different.

3. Protect your skin with a good Spf, at least 30, 15 in your make up is not going to cut it. Make sure it’s UVA & UVB protection

4. Get a professional skin treatment on a regular basis. The strength of the products and the equipment used is far more effective than what you can get at home. This also ensures your skin is in tip too condition and any problems can be addressed quickly.

So make your habits good ones.

17 ways to feel happier

This is not written by me but by a man I admire and have followed for many years Tony Robbins

17 WAYS TO FEEL HAPPY

1. FEED AND

CONDITION

YOUR MIND

Jim Rohn said, “Every day, you have to stand guard at the door of your mind.” Why? Because what you let into your mind – your beliefs – creates the meaning that you give to everything else in life. What are you thinking about most often? What you feed your mind is what you become. As Tony says, where focus goes, energy flows. Put your focus on feeding your mindnutritious content and you’ll give it the fuel it needs to learn how to feel happy.

To feed your mind, read at least 30 minutes a day of something substantive. Social media doesn’t count. Try reading biographies of people who have achieved amazing things or books about science and history. You should be challenged and excited by what you’re consuming. Not much of a reader? Try audio books or even podcaststo provide the same level of brain nutrition. This will help immensely as you explore how to make yourself feel happy.

2. STRENGTHEN YOUR BODY DAILY

No matter how much you feed your mind, it’s difficult to make an actual change in your life and discover how to feel happy if your body is telling you it’s unhealthy. Your mind and body are one unit. Whether you feel uncertain or fantastic, your physiology changes. When you are feeling physically strong and powerful, your mind follows suit.

To strengthen your body, adopt asustainable, healthy diet that incorporates whole grains and the nutrients you need for energy and cuts out sugars and additives that harm your health. Aim for five days a week minimum of exercise. Push yourself so your heart is racing for at least 10 minutes to get the full cardiovascular benefit. Aside from exercise, create a daily ritual to help make you strong. Tony uses a cold plunge. Your daily ritual might be a session of yoga, time in the sauna or light weightlifting.

3. GET A ROLE MODEL

Whether we’re seeking career success or inner happiness, role models and mentors can show us the right path. As Jim Rohn often said, “Success breeds clues.” Find someone who has overcome obstacles to feeling happy or think of someone you admire who is wildly happy. What mindsets orempowering beliefs do they have that allow them to feel happy? You might also consider getting a Results Coach who can provide you with tips on how to feel happy as well as how to increase fulfillment in your personal and professional life.

Tony Robbins is an example of a role model who learned how to feel happy. He came up with the concepts behind 5 to Thrive after he’d been kicked out of his house by his angry mother on Christmas Eve. He was still in high school, had no money and going home was no longer an option. An action plan for feeling happy was born, one that Tony has used in his own life and has expanded on over the years.

4. ELEVATE YOUR PEER GROUP

Many of us stay around people who are at our level of happiness or below it, partly because it makes us feel good about ourselves and partly because they don’t present a challenge. When we stay around people who are comfortable, there’s no impetus to grow. As Tony says, who you spend time with is who you become.

If you hang around people who are consistently negative and only look at the downsides of life, chances are you will, too. Opt to surround yourself with those who have an abundance mindset instead and see how much easier it is to find ways to feel happy. You need to be around people who do what you want to be doing. If you keep putting yourself there, something positive will happen. If you want to know how to feel happy, spend time with others who share your passions or who can teach you something new. You should also work on your ability to make new and meaningful connections. The more people you connect with, the more likely you are to find how to feel happy.

5. GIVE MORE THAN YOU EXPECT TO RECEIVE

Giving will change your state of mind in ways you can only imagine. In fact, Tony says that giving without expecting anything in return and just trying to be a blessing in the lives of everyone you meet will give you the energy to do the previous four things and will inevitably lead to being happy.

No matter how bad things may seem, find someone who’s worse off than you and help them. Even if you can’t give a lot of money, there are plenty of ways you can make a contribution. You can give them food, have a conversation or help them solve a problem. Whether it’s large or small, offer something to others and don’t expect anything in return. Remember: the secret to living is giving. When you’re grateful for what you have and always on the lookout for how you can improve someone else’s life, you’ve truly discovered how to feel happy.

6. SPEND MORE TIME OUTDOORS

Living near green spaces and regular exposure to fresh air is associated with a better mindset and is one of the ways to feel happy. Sunlight produces vitamin D, which is important to fight depression, and nature sparks curiosity and wonder.

Schedule time to spend outdoors. You should enjoy nature with your family and friends as well as spend time alone outdoors to process thoughts and reconnect with yourself. Regular exposure to fresh air, green grass and the sounds of water is a sure path to how to feel happy.

7. GET PLENTY OF SLEEP

When we’re exhausted, we may give up on figuring out how to feel happy – we just want to zone out in front of the TV or go to bed. Feeling happy is much easier when you’re well-rested and able to face the day with optimism and energy. If you have trouble sleeping or if you’re so overcommitted that you don’t take the time for seven to eight hours of sleep per night, you need to make some changes.

Create some healthy habits that help you power down in the evening and prepare your brain and body for sleep. Say no to commitments that keep you from adequate rest. Turn off electronics an hour before bedtime and read by a dim light instead of watching TV or scrolling Facebook. Try aromatherapy or play relaxing music or white noise to help you fall asleep. When you get quality sleep, learning how to feel happybecomes easier.

8. LISTEN TO UPBEAT MUSIC

Music activates the brain’s reward system and is one of the most powerful ways to feel happy. Music can act as medicine, a mood enhancer and a powerful form of self-expression. Slip on your headphones and crank up an upbeat playlist. You can do this while you work out, as you’re making dinner or anytime you’re struggling with your mood or feel like your world is spinning out of control.

9. PRACTICE LETTING GO

One reason so many people struggle with how to feel happy is the inability to let go. Whether you can’t let go of traumatic experiences in the past or can’t let go of an imagined slight from a co-worker, holding on to negativity leads to unhappiness. Identify emotional patterns that are preventing you from letting go and feeling happy, then make a conscious effort to change those patterns.

Have you experienced a life event that makes you wonder how to make yourself feel happy again? Remember that blame is a recipefor unhappiness. Whether you blame your ex or yourself for the end of your relationship, blame a higher power for letting your loved one die or blame your former boss for firing you, letting go of that blame and finding a way to forgiveis the key to how to feel happy.

10. PRACTICE SELF-CARE

Those who continually do for others without taking care of their own needs often end up wondering how to feel happy. Practicing self-careon a daily basis is the key to how to feel happier because we cannot live a full life unless we treat ourselves well.

Take some time every day to do nice things for yourself. It can be as little as getting an espresso at your favorite café or taking a 30-minute nap before going out to meet friends. Then, schedule bigger self-care activities like massages or vacations on a weekly or monthly basis. When you start taking care of yourself, you’ll find yourself feeling happy and better able to help others.

11. DISCONNECT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Though it has many positive uses, social media can hurt you and keep you from discovering how to feel happy, especially if you’ve just been through a break-up or divorce. Whether you are constantly checking your ex’s status on Facebook or dwelling on pictures of all the other people who look happier than you, staying away from social media when you feel sad or are looking for ways to feel happy can help you improve your mood.

12. AVOID BLAME

Blame is a recipe of unhappiness and staying stuck in negative feelings. Whether you blame your ex or yourself for the end of your relationship, blame a higher power for letting your loved one die or blame your former boss for firing you, letting go of that blame andfinding a way to forgive is the key to how to feel happy.

13. FIND ACTIVITIES THAT KEEP YOU BUSY

Being too idle can lead tooverthinking and rumination. When you’re trying to learn how to feel happy, you may find it difficult to get interested in things you used to love. However, the more you isolate yourself and avoid activities, the more you risk falling into a depression. Stay busy with hobbies you used to enjoy and you’ll eventually find they start bringing you happiness again.

14. REALIZE THAT LIFE HAPPENS FOR YOU

It’s easy to fall into a victim mentality when you see life as a series of negative events that happen to you. Change your mindset: Life is happening for you, not to you. Every situation in your life happens for a reason and is a stepping stone to the next level of growth.

15. CONNECT WITH OTHERS

Life takes on more meaning when you connect and share experiences with people. This may be more difficult for introverts or those who experience social anxiety; however, it’s important to put yourself out there and form new connections as well as create deeper connections with loved ones already in your life. Something as simple as a half hour lunch with someone you enjoy talking to is one of the easiest ways to feel happy and enrich your life.

16. PLAN A FUN ACTIVITY

You may not be able to get in the car and take that day trip or hit the beach right now – but even penciling it into your calendar can boost your mood. Part of how to feel happy is having things to look forward to, so go ahead and plan that weekend getaway or friend’s birthday party, even if it’s not happening for weeks.

17. WRITE IT DOWN

Writing helps to process emotions. Whether you’ve had a particular experience that’s left you wondering how to feel happy, like a break-up, or you’ve just been feeling down, write it out. You may discover a new perspective or a solution you never thought of before. As another exercise, write down five things you’re grateful for. The benefits of adopting an attitude of gratitude are proven.

There are no huge secrets when it comes to how to feel happy. It’s all about taking care of your body and mind, focusing on the needs of others and looking to role models who have already walked in your shoes. When you put these 15 principles in place, you will experience more fulfillment in every part of your life and have meaningful experiences on a regular basis.

The History Of Reflexology

De-stress with reflexology: you deserve it!

Every year in the last week of September reflexologists around the world organise events to celebrate World Reflexology Week, to promote awareness of our wonderful therapy.

Members of the Association of Reflexologists hold events so that you can experience the benefits of reflexology for yourself.

Ancient Reflexology

Reflexology is a therapy that dates back thousands of years.  It can actually be traced back to the ancient civilisations of Egypt, India, Native America and China. The oldest known documentation of reflexology is a pictograph that was found in the tomb of an Egyptian physician named Ankmahor at Saqqara dating back to 2330 BC, which depicts patients having treatments done on their hands and feet.

Reflexology is a treatment based on the principle that there are areas and points on the feet, hands, and ears that are connected through the nervous system to corresponding parts of the body. When pressure is applied to these areas and points it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels and helps to restore homeostasis balance in the body.

There are approximately 7,000 nerve endings in the human foot and each of them is a reflex point that corresponds to a body part. Reflexologists use special finger and thumb manipulations to stimulate these reflex points and they know exactly which area of the foot corresponds to which body part.

The Development of Modern Reflexology

The more modern form of reflexology was first pioneered by an ear, nose and throat surgeon by the name of Dr William Fitzgerald (1872-1942). Dr Fitzgerald was the founder of Zone Therapy, which was an earlier form of reflexology. He discovered that exerting pressure on the tips of the toes or fingers caused corresponding parts of the body to become anaesthetised. From this, Dr Fitzgerald divided the body into ten equal zones, which ran from the top of the head to the ends of the toes. By using tight elastic bands on the middle sections of the fingers or toes, or using pegs on the tips of the fingers, minor surgery could be carried out with no further anaesthetic agents required.

However, reflexology as we know it today was pioneered by a woman called Eunice Ingham (1889 – 1974), or the mother of reflexology. Eunice Ingham was a physiotherapist working in a doctor’s practice using the zone therapy developed by Dr Fitzgerald. After extensive research, she discovered that the reflexes on the feet were an exact mirror image of the organs of the body and developed the map of the entire body on the feet. By using acupressure or massage techniques on these points, a positive effect is created in the corresponding body part.

Ingham spent years travelling the world attending health seminars where she spoke with medical practitioners about her therapy and in later years was joined by her nephew Dwight Byers, who eventually took over the teaching seminars and established the International Institute of Reflexology. Eunice Ingham dedicated her life to helping others and was totally committed to the benefits of reflexology.

Modern Western reflexology uses the charts and theories developed by her and are now called the Ingham Method.

Reflexology is the application of a comfortable level of pressure on the feet or hands, to help the body rebalance itself. Specific areas on the feet and hands correspond to areas in the body via the nervous system. When pressure is applied to these areas it stimulates the movement of energy through nerve channels helping the body to rebalance itself.

The autonomic nervous system has two branches to it: sympathetic and parasympathetic. The sympathetic nervous system is involved in the body's fight or flight response. For the body to heal itself it needs to be in the parasympathetic phase, which is generally while we are sleeping.

Reflexology helps to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system creating a sense of deep relaxation. It can help with mental health conditions such as anxiety, where there is over-stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. It also helps with chronic and acute physical conditions.

There are many benefits to having reflexology, including:

  • Improved nerve function and sensitivity

  • Faster recovery from surgery or injuries

  • Improved circulation

  • Elimination of toxins

  • Deep relaxation

  • Improve pregnancy comfort

  • Reduces anxiety and depression

  • Improves sleep

  • Increases energy

  • Improves the immune system

The bonus to reflexology is that there are no side effects!

How to treat hyperpigmentation

Brighten Up! Discover the Best Products & Routine for Hyperpigmentation

A light dusting of freckles might not worry you, but melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a different story. If you’re finding yourself slathering on cover-up in an effort to disguise stubborn dark patches of skin, AKA hyperpigmentation, this skincare routine is for you.

Excess pigmentation is the result of the way your body produces melanin, the thing that gives your skin its colour. Several things can cause your body to ramp up melanin production, including hormones or sun exposure. And it can be challenging to get rid of. You need the best products for hyperpigmentation so you can fade your spots and reveal your naturally radiant skin.

We’ve got you covered with a step-by-step daily skincare routine for pigmented skin AND the science behind why these products are so effective.

First, Let’s Talk Actives

Hyoerpigmentation is a stubborn skin condition that can require a multi-action skincare regime. These active ingredients in your hyperpigmentation serums and creams tackle pigmentation in a few different ways.

Tyrosinase Inhibitors

Tyrosinase Inhibitors break the body’s natural melanin production cycle. A concentrated area of melanin is pigmentation, so if your body creates less melanin, it follows you should have less pigmentation.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide doesn’t stop the production of melanin, but it does reduce the amount that’s transferred between cells in a process called “melanosome transfer”. Inhibiting this process has shown to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

Alpha-hydroxy Acids (AHAs)

The faster your skin sheds cells, and creates new ones, the quicker you’ll be rid of dark spots. We’re not talking about vigorous scrubbing—step away from the loofah. Instead opt for products that act as a gentle chemical exfoliant. Alpha-hydroxy Acids (AHAs), in particular Lactic Acid and Vitamin A, break down dead skin cells and promote a more youthful complexion without compromising the skin.

SPF

Even the best hyperpigmentation skincare products won’t help if you don’t also shield yourself from ultraviolet rays. Be sure to use a quality sunscreen and reapply throughout the day.

Hyperpigmentation Skincare Routine

Now you’ve got the background on why certain ingredients are so effective, let’s get you set up for an even complexion. Follow this simple 5-step skincare routine to brighten and lighten spots, including stubborn acne hyperpigmentation.

Daily Skincare Routine Step 1: Cleanse

Morning & Evening

Dulling residue and dead skin cells can clog your skin, leaving it looking drab. Cleansing is a crucial step in any skincare routine. You want a cleanser that whisks away impurities without damaging or drying your skin.

A product that provides effective 2-in-1 cleansing and exfoliation is a valuable timesaver. Exfoliants go deeper than your regular cleanse to scrub out those pores and reveal a brighter complexion.

Best Cleanser For Hyperpigmentation:  MICRO  DERM EXFOLIANT

For smooth, purified skin, you can’t go past Microderm exfoliant. One of the star ingredients is bamboo extract. Rich in silica, it’s a non-abrasive product that supports collagen production while exfoliating your skin.

A natural healer, silica is gentle and soothing on sensitive skin and is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radical attacks. Your skin is left feeling purified and irresistibly smooth.

Microderm exfoliant also contains Lactic Acid, which occurs naturally in muscle tissue and red blood cells. It’s a frictionless exfoliant, meaning it breaks down and dissolves the structure of dead skin cells rather than sanding back your skin.

Say bye-bye to old, discoloured skin cells and hello to plumper, younger-looking skin.

How to Apply MICRO DERM EXFOLIANT

  1. Using slightly moistened hands, apply an almond-sized amount of Microdermabrasion exfoliant to your face and exfoliate in light circular motions. Avoid the eye area.

  2. Remove with damp cotton wipes or gauze.

Daily Skincare Routine Step 2: Serum

Morning & Evening

Serums are typically made of smaller molecules that can penetrate deeper into your skin. If you’re troubled by your skin’s speckled appearance, a serum that contains Vitamin C and Niacinamide can provide a concentrated dose of brightening.

Best Serum for Hyperpigmentation:  ANTIOXIDANT COCKTAIL

As the name suggests, this potent hyperpigmentation serum is rich in antioxidants. ANTIOXIDANT COCKTAIL™ was first developed to fight free radical attacks after rejuvenation procedures but has since proven to be a successful brightening serum for daily use.

Harness the pigment-reducing power of Vitamin C and Niacinamide by incorporating it into your daily routine.

HylaFuse Delivers Deeper Results

The restorative benefits of Antioxidant hylafuse are effectively absorbed thanks to a revolutionary delivery system called hylafuse. This Hyaluronic Acid (HA) formulation is unique to Dp Dermaceuticals  range and contains three sizes of molecules. The smallest molecule can reach deeper skin levels, taking the other powerful active ingredients with it. It continues to hydrate and correct for an astonishing eight hours after application.

How to apply ANTIOXIDANT COCKTAIL

  1. After cleansing your skin with Microderm exfoliant , apply 1–2 pumps of Antioxidants cocktail.

  2. Massage lightly into the skin until absorbed.

Daily Skincare Routine Step 3: Correct

Morning & Evening

Using a corrector for your specific skin concern is the best way to achieve the desired results. Correctors contain a potent blend of ingredients that target specific skin concerns. That might be fine lines and wrinklesacne or in this case pigmentation

You can use these products after serum and before moisturising as part of your daily routine or as a spot treatment on particularly stubborn patches of pigmentation.

Best Corrector For Hyperpigmentation: BRITE LITE

Brite lite is a dual-action wonder product for age spots, melasma, acne and uneven skin tone. It both prevents excess pigment from forming and also fades existing spots and discolourations for a more flawless, uniform skin tone.

The potent formula sedates pigment formation for long-lasting results. It’s a real win against stubborn pigmentation, which tends to reappear after inflammation or time in the sun. The gently moisturising solution also contains HylaFuse technology to reach the deepest skin layers.

We recommend Brite lite for use with dermapen treatments as it prevents hyperpigmentation from forming as a reaction to inflammation. It brightens and clarifies uneven skin tone, for impossibly smooth, balanced skin.

When microneedling at home with the dermapen home device, combine equal parts Brite Lire  with Hyla active for a customised Meso-Glide™ serum.

Nature’s Skin Brighteners

The secret behind BRITE LITE’s brightening powers are the potent tyrosinase inhibitors that don’t irritate sensitive skin, such as Licorice Root.

Licorice Root

This traditional herbal remedy has been used for years to treat inflammatory skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Licorice root contains:

  • Glabradin, a potent anti-inflammatory perfect for acne and acne-related pigmentation and sensitive skin.

  • Liquiritin, an active ingredient which helps to get rid of excess melanin and pigment from the skin.

  • Licochalcone, a molecule that controls oil production to soothe and calm acne-prone skin.

How to apply BRITE LITE

Brite lite is suitable for use as a targeted spot treatment for uneven skin tone anywhere on the face or body. You can also apply BRITE LITE over the top of antioxidant cocktail twice a day to further inhibit pigment. Daily application may be resumed 3–4 days post-procedure.

  1. Apply 2–3 pumps of BRITE LITE to pigmented skin.

  2. Massage lightly into the skin until it’s absorbed.

Expert Tip: Count 10 seconds between applying each skincare layer. Your products will absorb better!

Daily Skincare Routine Step 4: Moisturise

Morning & Evening

The final step in your routine is softening and smoothing skin with a good moisturiser that supplements your skin’s natural barrier function. Your moisturiser should lock in all the benefits of other products while minimising further harm from environmental factors.

Best Moisturiser For Hyperpigmentation: SKIN VENEER

The skin’s natural barrier inspired this emollient blend of proteins, peptides, botanicals and cholesterol. As a veneer, it keeps the potent active ingredients of BRITE LITE and ANTIOXIDANT COCKTAIL locked in your skin while offering an extra boost of hydration for dry to very dry skin.

This very same barrier blocks harmful environmental conditions from reaching your delicate epidermis, preventing damage. Skin veneer visibly firms and plumps skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This luxurious moisturiser leaves your skin feeling nourished and rehydrated.

Flower Power

Naturally occurring botanicals work wonders on your skin. SKIN VENEER contains Bulgarian Rose, rich in oligosaccharides, a gentle and natural alternative to retinol. It offers similar anti-ageing benefits, without irritating your skin. The watermelon fruit extract component contains citrulline, a critical part of the skin’s water-based moisturising complex. While the essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals in Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Sprout support the general functioning of the mitochondria (the power generators of a cell).

How to apply SKIN VENEER

  1. Apply Skin veneer sparingly to face, neck and décolleté as the last skincare step before you apply your cover product.

  2. Allow to absorb and dry before applying Dp Dermaceuticals COVER RECOVER™ SPF 30 camouflage make-up.

Daily Skincare Routine Step 5: Protect

Morning Only

You’ve probably heard that prevention is better than cure. One of the main causes of pigmented skin conditions like sunspots, freckles and melasma are UV rays from sunlight. Remember that UV rays can be present even in cloudy or overcast weather, so you need to protect your skin at all times.

Ideally, you want a product that both protects you from the sun and also covers and blends any patches of pigmentation.

Best Cover Product For Hyperpigmentation: COVER RECOVER SPF 30

There is a lot to love with Cover recover. It’s a powerful anti-ageing formula for all skin types, packed with vitamins, peptides, probiotics and hyaluronic acid.

It offers a flawless finish, even on pigmentation, veiling skin without clogging pores. The self-adjusting iron oxide pigments in the 11 available shades blend invisibly to suit all skin tones and colours. As well as pigmentation, Cover recover can disguise imperfections, wounds, acne and even tattoos.

The silica gives your face a demi-matte finish, imitating the texture of your skin. What’s more, you can build up your coverage depending on your skin’s condition or time of day. You’ll always look your natural best.

Block Damaging UV Rays

Combining sun protection with your covering product is a handy time-saving hack. If you’re prone to sun-induced hyperpigmentation, you probably already know the importance of shielding your skin from ultraviolet rays all day long.

Along with a range of high performing ingredients, COVER RECOVER contains tocopherol acetate (Vitamin E) that enhances the efficacy of active sunscreen ingredients and reduces the formation of free radicals from exposure to UV rays.

SPF 50 or 30?

Many people are under the false belief that applying a higher SPF, such as 50, once a day is much safer. But SPF 50+ offers only marginally better protection than SPF 30. SPF 50+ filters out 98% of UVB radiation, and SPF 30 blocks 96.7% of UVB.

Cover recover is SPF 30 to strike a balance between blocking out harmful rays and remaining gentle on your skin. More chemical ingredients would be needed to achieve a higher SPF, which could potentially:

  • disrupt hormones,

  • cause an allergic reaction, or

  • expose you to more free radical damage.

No matter which level of SPF you choose, correct application is essential to protect your skin. Be sure to reapply COVER RECOVER every couple of hours as sunscreen may sweat or wash off. Always wait 15–20 minutes after applying sunscreen to go outside.

How to Apply COVER RECOVER

  1. Apply a small amount to each section of the face and blend gently across the entire face using the Civet recover blender

  2. Wait 20 minutes before going out in the sun.

  3. Reapply at least every couple of hours as sunscreen may sweat or wash off.

Bonus Skincare Tip For Hyperpigmentation: Face Masks

Once a Week

Masks deliver a concentrated dose of active ingredients into your skin for faster results. As you relax for 10-30 minutes, you’ll feel the benefits soaking in.

Best Mask For Hyperpigmentation: BRITE LITE 3D SCULPTURED MASK

We recommend masks as part of our Dermapen Treatment Protocols immediately after microneedling. The active ingredients flow through the microchannels created by the needles to absorb into the deeper layers of your skin.

Masks are also a fantastic way to nourish your skin, maintain results, and keep pigmentation at bay with weekly use.

A Hug for Your Face

The cleverly designed Brite lite 3d mask follows the contours of your face, so every inch is soaked in pigment-fighting serum. The soft fibres are enriched with the high-performing BRITE LITE ingredients for a brighter, more consistent complexion.

How To Apply BRITE LITE 3D SCULPTURED MASK

  1. Apply on clean or newly microneedled skin.

  2. Leave on for 10–30 minutes to allow active ingredients to penetrate the skin.

  3. Massage over the top of the mask with a Cover recover blender for extra relaxation and greater absorption of actives.

  4. Remove and discard. Each one is for single use only.

Rewrite Your Skin’s History

Hyperpigmentation might have defined your skin’s past, or perhaps a change in your environment or hormones means it’s made a recent appearance. But no matter how long you’ve had pigmentation, you can start rewriting your skin’s history today.

The BRIGHTENING STARTER KIT contains a collection of hero products suitable for discoloured, unevenly toned or pigmented skin. Formulated with ingredients proven to brighten skin, you can lessen the appearance of hyperpigmentation and restore an even glow.

Everything you need to know about sunscreens

How to Choose a Sunscreen

Helping you choose the right sunscreen

You’ve probably seen many different brands before, and yet, they don’t quite hit the mark. Even the ones that claim to be “non-greasy” are greasy. And they can ruin the results you are working so hard to achieve on your patient’s skin.

But we all know how important wearing the right sunscreen is to protect skin from cancer, sunburn, and premature ageing. Our latest article makes it easy to understand how to find a sunscreen that ticks all the boxes.

The Incredibly Easy Way to Preserve & Protect Your Skin

You’ve probably tried many different brands of sunscreen, and yet, they don’t quite hit the mark.

Even the ones that say “non-greasy” are greasy. So, you opt for a mineral sunscreen instead, and it’s chalky. It takes forever to rub in. You feel like if you sidle up to a dining chair, you’ll stain it.

You know why sunscreen is important, but maybe you’re wondering, “is SPF 30 enough?” or “how long does SPF 30 last?” – important factors to consider when you’re trying to protect yourself and your family.

If you’ve spent a fortune looking for a sunscreen that’s reef-safe, non-greasy, non-chalky, and protects from the sun, then you can stop hunting because we have you covered (literally).

Keep reading to find out how to choose a sunscreen without it becoming a sticky, smelly chore.

SPF Meaning

Before we dive into sunscreen solutions, let’s cover the basics. You wear sunscreen to protect your skin from sunburn, skin cancer and ageing.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. As the name suggests, the SPF lets you know how long it will take for the skin to burn when exposed to the sun. This is relative to your unprotected skin. Let’s look at an example

How long does SPF 30 last? If your skin burns after 10 to 20 minutes of sun exposure, applying SPF 30 will protect you for 30 times longer – around 5 to 10 hours.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends the use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 for everyday activities and 30 or higher for outdoor activities or when the sun is strongest.

“Regular daily use of SPF 15 sunscreen can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by about 40 percent, and lower your melanoma risk by 50 percent.”

The Skin Cancer Foundation

Look Younger for Longer

While you probably don’t need an added incentive, blocking the harmful rays of the sun also keeps your skin looking younger for longer.

Many of the changes in your skin associated with ageing are actually due to prolonged exposure to the sun. Protecting your skin from UV rays from a young age can help ward off the appearance of lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, broken capillaries or red blotches.

Furthermore, some common anti-ageing ingredients in skincare, as well as some medications, increase photosensitivity. That means your skin’s defences against UV rays are lowered. If you don’t want wrinkles, and you certainly don’t want skin cancer, the correct application of a product with safe SPF levels is an absolute must in your daily skincare regimen.

Common Myths About Safe SPF

Myth: I can just apply SPF 50+ once a day

Fact: Many people are under the false belief that a higher SPF, such as 50, is a safer choice. SPF isn’t linear in its level of protection, with SPF 50+ only offering a marginally better level of protection than SPF 30.

  • SPF 50+ filters out 98% of UVB radiation

  • SPF 30 filters out 96.7% of UVB radiation

No matter what level of SPF you choose, correct application is essential. Any sunscreen product needs to be applied 15-20 minutes prior to going out in the sun and re-applied every couple of hours, particularly after sweating from heat exposure or exercise, or water activities.

Myth: You only need to worry about UVB rays

Fact: While UVB rays are responsible for producing sunburn, UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin and play a greater role in skin aging and wrinkle formation. They are also proven to contribute to sunburn and cancer.

Developed in Japan, the Protection Grade of UVA (PA) system is meant to inform users of the level of protection from UVA rays.

  • PA+ provides some protection

  • PA++ provides moderate protection

  • PA+++ offers the best protection of the three

Safe SPF Application Tips

Now to the question at hand: how to apply sunscreen for maximum protection.

You need to apply a liberal amount of sunscreen 15-20 minutes before sun exposure. Applying it before you get dressed means that if you take off a top or your singlet strap slips, you’ll still be protected. As a bonus, this helps ward off any unsightly tan lines.

Then remember that you need to re-apply your sunscreen every couple of hours. You should also re-apply after swimming or drying off with a towel. Don’t miss those easy-to-forget places like behind your ears, the backs of your knees and the tops of your feet.

Sunscreen can offer great protection for everyone, with many different options now available for sensitive skin (keep reading to find out the incredible product that’s suitable for all skin types and concerns, even sensitive). But do consult your doctor before using on an infant under 6 months old.

Stay Sun Safe

The bottom line: SPF 30 sunscreen is great, but there are other things you can do to help keep your skin safe from the sun.

Between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm, the UV rays tend to be highest, so stay out of the sun and avoid prolonged exposure generally. Give your skin the best level of protection with suitable clothing, including:

  • long-sleeved shirt

  • wide-brimmed hats

  • UV-rated sun umbrellas

  • sunglasses

Use More Than You Think

Failing to apply enough sunscreen could be doing your skin damage. It’s estimated that most people apply less than half of the required amount.

You’ll need to apply about an ounce to your entire body to get full protection. Not sure what an ounce is? It’s about the same as a shot glass.

Finding the Best Sunscreen

Because sunscreen is something you apply every day, there are other factors to consider (beyond UV protection) to find the best sunscreen for you.

Finding “the one” stops it from being a chore you’re likely to skip and helps make applying sunscreen a no-brainer part of your daily routine.

Are these factors on your sunscreen wish list?

  • Doesn’t irritate your skin or cause breakouts

  • Environmentally friendly

  • Non-chemical

  • Water-resistant

  • Covers redness and blemishes

  • Soothes and Protects

  • Doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing white clown make-up when heading out

Cover recover  by Dp Dermaceuticals™ offers premium SPF30/PA+++ protection as well as this long list of benefits.

Organic Sunscreen That’s Gentle & Pure

Sunscreen is a term we commonly use to refer to the products that provide sun protection, but it can also refer to the ingredients that provide that protection. There are 3 types of sunscreens:

  • Chemical

  • Mineral

  • Combination

Chemical sunscreens sink into your skin and absorb UV rays. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are what is known as mineral sunscreens and are what we choose to use in COVER RECOVER™. They aren’t absorbed into your skin but rather sit on top to provide barrier protection against UV rays.

Previously, mineral sunscreen left your face looking greasy or chalky white. You might even remember painting green, pink, or yellow stripes of “zinc” across your nose as a kid.

As a result of many years of research Civet recover veils the skin rather than coating it. It glides on easily and leaves a natural matte finish, so you don’t look shiny or ghostly.

It provides breathable flawless coverage and high UVA and UVB protection without clogging pores or irritating sensitive skin.

Go Reef-Safe to Protect Our Waterways

Excited to find a sunscreen that won’t harm reefs and oceans yet performs well?

“Reef-safe” is the latest term making a splash in the world of sunscreen. As an Australian company, sharing the same home as the Great Barrier Reef and other natural wonders, we love and respect our oceans. We’re committed to preserving and protecting our wondrous environment.

That’s just another reason why we avoid chemical-based sunscreens and banned substances in cover recover, Instead, we opted for organic mineral-based physical sunscreen ingredients.

This philosophy extends to our entire range. We use bamboo extract (a natural exfoliator) in Microderm exfoliant, rather than plastic beads that damage marine life.

Good for All Skin, Even Sensitive

Do you find yourself caught between wanting to protect your skin but hating the way most sunscreens feel? You no longer have to choose between safety and making your rosacea or acne worse.

COVER RECOVER™ is SPF 30 to strike a balance between blocking out harmful rays and remaining gentle on your skin. For a higher SPF, we would need to include more chemical ingredients which could potentially:

  • disrupt hormones,

  • cause an allergic reaction, or

  • expose you to more free radical damage.

Our organic mineral-derived sunscreen is suitable for all skin types, even those with sensitive skin or rosacea. Even better, imperfections, wounds, acne, tattoos and even pigmentation are instantly disguised.

Your Perfect Match

One of the main benefits of COVER RECOVER™ is that it acts as a foundation (although it’s also available in clear and sheer) as well as a sunscreen.

We recently updated and improved our colour palette to suit a broader range of skin tones. COVER RECOVER™ comes in 11 shades, including clear and sheer for discreet coverage. Sheer is my absolute favourite and I use it on just about all my Dermapen skin needling clients here at Sole Revival

The self-adjusting iron oxide pigments (together with age defying vitamins and peptides) blend invisibly with your skin. You can build up your coverage to the level you prefer while retaining a natural effect. The silicone promotes a demi-matte finish to replicate the look of natural skin.

Safe to Wear After Clinical Treatments

Whether you’re new to cosmetic procedures like laser, dermabrasion, fillers or microneedling or you see a skin therapist regularly, you’ll probably be surprised to hear that not only can your wear COVER RECOVER™ immediately after a procedure, but it’s encouraged.  In contrast, COVER RECOVER™ contains ingredients that moisturise and protect compromised skin. It instantly cools skin affected by inflammation, redness, discomfort and heat to significantly reduce downtime after a procedure.

Although it might look like luxurious everyday make-up, this powerhouse formula encourages intensive regeneration and recovery in one.

Essential Step in a Dermapen Treatment

Erythema (similar in sensation to a mild sunburn) is an expected reaction in your skin immediately following a skin needling treatment. You may also experience mild pinpoint bleeding.

The effective skincare properties in Cover recover nurture your post-procedure skin. Our Cosmeceutical Director, Corri Matthews, likes to demonstrate the instant cooling sensation by applying it to half of the face following a procedure.

“This has become one of my favourite Dp Dermaceuticals products! I use it every day. I recommend that you try it on half your face post-treatment to experience the difference for yourself.”

Corri Matthews

The remarkable, clinically formulated make-up/skincare hybrid delivers moisture, protection and instantly cools skin affected by inflammation, redness, discomfort and heat. Your downtime will be significantly reduced post-treatment.

COVER RECOVER™ also boosts results. It’s designed to support and strengthen regulated collagen and elastin production.

Advanced Healing & Cooling Powers

Technology developed by the Sorbonne University, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital burns unit in Paris was the inspiration for cover recover. This SPF foundation leverages the very best ingredients that nature has to offer, blended with scientific innovation.

Take, for example, the Pyrus Malus Fruit Extract. This natural astringent is rich in antioxidants, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and Vitamin C to help clear and rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. At the same time, the cooling Mentha Piperita extract offers an instantly refreshing sensation.

Every Treatment, Every Day, Every Skin

One common worry people have about using some sunscreens is that they clog pores and cause acne. COVER RECOVER™ is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores or cause acne. You can even sleep in it overnight—something we recommend following a microneedling procedure.

You’re probably used to trying to cover up imperfections only to regret it a few days later when the product used inflames your concerns, but not with COVER RECOVER™. Whatever your skin concerns, this versatile and helpful product not only covers them up but helps heal them.

Skincare tips for men

Male Grooming & Skincare Tips

Do you ever feel like grooming advice for men is either too advanced or too basic?

On one end of the scale, men are targeted with 3-in-1 products that aren’t tailored to their skin type or concern. It’s as if every man has the same basic needs (spoiler: they don’t).

But on the other hand, the idea of committing to a 7-step skincare routine is overwhelming. You know you won’t stick to it.

It’s time to find the middle ground for men who want to look their best but don’t want to spend half their life in front of a mirror. So, whether you’re a grooming expert or curious beginner, we’ve got refreshingly straightforward grooming and skincare tips for men that’ll fit just right.

Can Guys Use Female Skin Products?

In general, there are a few subtle differences between men and women’s skin.

Men tend to have:

  • Thicker skin,

  • More facial hair, and

  • Higher levels of oil (sebum)

Of course, just as everyone is unique, so too is their skin. Men also share many similarities with women, as anyone (regardless of gender) may have to deal with skin concerns like premature ageing, acne, pigmentation and scarring.

That’s why, at Sole Revival Skin & Body Clinic all our products are defined by the skin types and concerns they’re suitable for. Everyone deserves to feel good in their skin.

Skincare Ingredients for Men

The active ingredients that work in female skin will also work in male skin. But with so much commentary online, it can feel like you’re drowning in information on something as simple as moisturising.

DP Dermaceuticals is a speciality skincare line that contains powerful active ingredients to target certain skin concerns. Rather than diving into each skincare ingredient to piece together a routine, use these 3-steps to achieve better skincare and grooming habits without the overwhelm.

Skincare Routine for Men

Step 1 Cleanse & Shave with Clr cleanser

If your skin tends to be naturally oily, this foam cleanser is a great way to get started. It contains Salicylic Acid, which is a powerful BHA. It can reach deeper to dislodge residual oil and impurities for a clarified complexion. It also improves the appearance of acne and enlarged pores.

One of the many reasons why men love Clr foam cleanserthat it doubles as a gentle shaving foam as well as a cleanser. Finding products that are effective and time-efficient makes it easy to stick to a routine. And when you stick to a routine, you can get better results.

Step 2 Moisturise with Clr foam cleanser

You can’t stumble through men’s skincare online or in-store without hearing that you should be moisturising. Like most clichés, it’s true. Incorporating a daily moisturiser is one of the easiest ways to care for your skin.

Just like any skin, yours can benefit from potent ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide. So go ahead and soak up all that goodness with a light moisturiser that replenishes hydration.

Contrary to what you might think, oily and problematic skin needs moisturising too. Clr lotion combats breakouts with antibacterial agents, vitamins, and minerals in Manuka Honey and the exfoliating and anti-inflammatory effects of Willow Bark Extract.

Step 2 PM Moisturise with Retinal active

If you’re concerned by the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles or acne scars, incorporating a retinoid into your evening routine is a great way to target these specific concerns. This wonder ingredient is a form of Vitamin A and is extremely popular with women and men alike.

Dp Dermaceuticals Tetinal active contains Retinaldehyde, which is the highest form of retinoid available without a prescription. Firmness, elasticity, and tone are improved, and oil production is balanced.

Step 3 Protect with Cover recover

No one is immune to the damage caused by UV rays. That’s why it’s essential that men, as well as women, protect their skin with suitable sunscreen.

Cover recover goes beyond what a typical SPF can deliver. It’s available as a foundation, but the Clear and Sheer options are perfect for men who want a cover that can’t be detected. The pigment in the Sheer blends with most skin tones to camouflage imperfections without looking like make-up.

Microneedling for Men

Now you’ve got your routine down, what’s next? Dermaoen skin needling are popular with both men and women who want to look and feel their best without the downtime associated with some rejuvenation procedures.

The series of micro needling boost collagen and elastin to improve the appearance of multiple skin concerns at once. For example, you could reduce your acne AND improve the look of left-over scars or pigmentation.

What you may not know is that Dermapen Treatments™ also needle in the active ingredients in specialty serums called Meso glide so they can work at optimal skin layers.

What are the benefits of a Gua sha facial ?

About Gua Sha

Gua Sha facial therapy is a healing technique from traditional Chinese medicine dating back almost 3,000 years. GuaSha treatment practitioners used stones or porcelain tools to 'scrape' a patient's skin bringing blood to the surface and speeding the natural healing process. Gua Sha therapy can decrease pain and inflammation as well as boost immunity. As often is the case with alternative healing modalities, the practice treats the body holistically, ensuring health not just on the surface of the skin, but also throughout the body’s systems.
What are the benefits of gua sha facial?

  • Relieves tension from muscles.

Gua sha has also been proven to help relieve tension in the face, reduce puffiness and inflammation, and it can even help reduce sinus pressure. However, since the musculature of the face is much thinner, you'll want to avoid applying too much pressure as you're working on this area. Gua sha may be used to treat muscle pain and can break down scar tissue.

Gua sha can be effective in removing your double chin. Collagen helps improve elasticity, and the more elastic your skin is, the less likely it'll be to sit under your chin

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of healthcare dating back thousands of years. It incorporates the modalities of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Remedial Massage (Tui Na) including cupping and spoon massage (Gua Sha), moxabustion as well as diet and lifestyle advice.

TCM is based on the principle that everybody has Qi (pronounced chee) or energy and this Qi flows through your meridians who in turn nourish your body’s organs, tissues and mind. When a person has an abundance of Qi, they are healthy. When the quantity, supply or movement of that Qi is compromised, this leads to patterns of disharmony. This can be due to factors such as emotional stress, overwork, poor diet, poor rest, poor exercise and just as importantly; environmental change.

Scraping (Gua Sha)

Scraping or Gua Sha (which literally means to scrape away fever) is a technique used to encourage strong blood supply and is an excellent and safe form of deep tissue massage. Scraping facilitates strong circulation and movement and by way of direction, one is able to scrape away toxicity (Sha) and obstructions in the muscles and meridians. This can also facilitate immunity, lymphatic movement, peripheral circulation and tension relief.

Facials are so much more than an hour of indulgent pampering.

They have enormous benefits to the health and wellness of your skin, both in the short and long term. When you consider all of the regular visits you make (dentist, hair salon, gym), you'll realise you really should be focusing some of that time on your skin—even if it's just when seasons change.

Get the Most out of Your Skincare

Clogged pores and dry skin will work against the very best efforts to take care of your skin. Even the highest quality creams and serums won’t be as effective if your skin is suffering from excess dryness, uneven tone or congestion. By maintaining smooth skin and refined pores, your skincare will absorb properly and do what it is meant to do.

Seasonal Skin Changes

Our skin is like nature -- it changes with the seasons and has different needs based on the temperature, humidity level and hours of sunlight. In the winter, a super hydrating facial will restore lost moisture, while a summer facial will work to calm sun-damaged skin. Getting a facial in the spring will invigorate and nourish dull post-winter skin, and an autumn facial will prep your complexion for the cold months ahead.

Instant Results

Facials, done right, give your skin immediate results. If you have a big event and your complexion needs a boost of radiance or its youthful glow restored, a facial can provide just what you’re looking for.

Find a facial that contains hydrating products for instant plumping.

Massage for Lymphatic Drainage

Most facials include a certain amount of facial massage. Not only does this send us into deep relaxation but it helps to promote lymphatic drainage–in other words, it gets rid of toxins and reduces fluid retention. By flushing out these toxins we also promote circulation, which leaves skin glowing and youthful.

Even those with dry sensitive skin need their cleanser to dig a little deeper. We could probably all afford to cleanse our skin for longer or to cleanse it more effectively. Deep-cleansing facials make up for our lazy ways by thoroughly removing dirt and oil build-up without drying the skin. Proper cleansing means your pores will be refined and your complexion will look and feel rejuvenated. It's kind of like supplementing regular toothbrushing with visits to the dentist.

Get to Know Your Skin

Your therapist will assess your skin diagnosing common skin issues, she’ll better be able to advise you on what products you should be using for your skin type. You may not know you have dehydrated or rosacea-prone skin, or that products you are currently using are causing irritation, but regular visits to your therapist will guarantee you’ll understand what’s happening with your skin. And, considering your skin is constantly changing, it’s important to get regular updates -- consider it therapy or counselling for your skin.

High Tech Treatments

Many facials provide high tech treatments that should only be performed by a trained & knowledgeable therapist. For instance, peels and masks, are excellent tools but you must choose the correct one for your individual skin concerns. LED light therapy is another popular treatment that is used to strengthen the skin, reduce redness, kill bacteria and stimulate collagen production among many other things. This high-tech treatment includes using different coloured light for tackling different skin issues. It is thought that the different wavelengths of LED can penetrate deeper into the skin and, when used consecutively, & when teamed with other treatments can be a powerful, yet gentle, anti-aging tool.

Professional Strength Exfoliation

It’s impossible to avoid environmental free-radical damage. We’re bombarded daily with unavoidable toxins, UV rays and dirt that cause our skin to look ruddy and congested. Professional strength exfoliation like microdermabrasion or chemical peels effectively remove dead skin cells and promote healthy cell turnover when used regularly. Over time, professional exfoliating methods can also help to diminish acne and other facial scarring.

Home Skincare Guidance

Therapist  know about skincare – they know what works, and what doesn’t. After assessing your skin, a professional can help set you up with the right products to use at home. By getting to know your skin over time, she can monitor any changes, making sure you continue to use the right products or suggesting others based on your skin’s changing needs.

Anti-Aging

We’re getting older each and every day and because we only have one face, we really need to take care of it. By getting regular facials, we promote cell turnover, boost collagen production and maintain healthy skin balance–all of which are great anti-aging remedies.

Teenagers Need Help Too

It’s not breaking news that teenagers struggle with acne and have lazy – or non-existent – skincare routines. Getting regular facials can help manage the over-production of oils that adolescents experience due to their fluctuating hormone levels. It’s also a great way for a teen to learn how to care for their skin properly: We all know that, to a teenager, mums advice isn’t always well-received, so what better way to be taught than by a professional. Teens also receive a 10% discount.
